altaltTuesday February 23rd was a fantastic event inspite of the poor weather.  The Honorable Judge Tom Greenwell pictured left of the 319th District Court and Texas House of Representative District 32 Todd Hunter pictured right.

Our topics were on our State Judiciary and the Legislature and the interaction between the two.  Judge Tom Greenwell is one of our Honored judges and State Rep. Todd Hunter is on the Judiciary Committee in our state legislature.

As expected these two serants of our great county and state were interesting and worth weathering the poor conditions outside to get to it.  We had about eight running candidates for many different offices in the area.  You will find a slideshow of the folks before and after.  So get interested and get involved in justice.

PostHeaderIcon Sam Millsap

Sam MillsapSam Millsap received his undergraduate and legal education at the University of Texas and has practiced law in San Antonio, Texas, for 35 years.  Millsap was elected Bexar County District Attorney in 1982 and served in that office until 1987.  He was selected as San Antonio’s "Politician of the Year" by both of San Antonio’s major daily newspapers in 1983.

Among many notable prosecutions, Millsap prosecuted Ruben Cantu for capital murder; Cantu was executed in 1992.  In December, 2005, as a result of investigative reporting by the Houston Chronicle, serious questions were raised concerning Cantu’s guilt.  Millsap, acknowledging that he made an error in judgment when he decided to seek the death penalty on the basis of the testimony of a single eyewitness, has assumed personal responsibility for Ruben Cantu’s execution.  Millsap is the only former elected major metropolitan prosecutor in America who has prosecuted capital murder cases and is now an opponent of the death penalty.  Millsap has campaigned against the death penalty throughout the country and will speak at the United Nations in October.

In addition to many other awards, Millsap received the Texas Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty’s “Courage Award” in February, 2006.

1. Do you believe that the laws in the United States have as their origin Biblical ethical truths?

_X_ Yes ___ No

Comment: I believe the U. S. Constitution was formed to reflect the “Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.”  That is why the image of the Ten Commandments is considered the symbol of laws.  The constitutions of the states are modeled after the U.S. Constitution.

2. Do you believe that oughtness (what ought to be) in ethics has its origin in what God has said in the Bible?

_X_ Yes ___ No

Comment: I believe the precepts of morality come from the Bible.

Pastor John Otis

Our Kick Off Conference was a great success.  First we would like thank Pastor John Otis for the rousing statement of our foundation in the judicial system.  We need a moral standard in our judicial system Katherine Kaseor the nation will crumble under its’ own weight.  This can be listened to by clicking here.  Secondly thank you to Katherine Kase for the enlightening and at times humorous session on the “Qualities of a good judicial candidate”.  We were impressed in her ability to take a topic usually considered dry and uninteresting and provide us with key and critical information and at the same time make it enjoyable.

We have the video.  As well as the power point  of Katherine’s speech.
